A farewell

Dear core-boardgamers,

Boardgamecore has been running for 12 years now, but unfortunately, it is time to close. Fewer and fewer gamers are playing here, and hosting prices are becoming more expensive year after year. Furthermore, I am not dedicating enough time to maintaining the site.

Luckily, there are now plenty of other places and applications to play board games, which was not the case 12 years ago.

Developing and running BGC has been a great joy for me. I've learned a lot, played tons of games, and met many great people along the way.

Thank you to Jeroen and Joris (Splotter Spellen) for their incredible games and their slightly offbeat vision of the world of board gaming. The quality of their designs rivals their originality, and they always take the time needed to let a game fully mature. Not to mention their kindness and availability towards the gaming community. They have always allowed their games to be freely shared online, and believe me, that's becoming increasingly rare.

Rare, but they still exist, like Richard (Histogame), who also takes the time to create extraordinary games while being deeply dedicated to the community. Thank you as well, Richard, for allowing me to contribute, in a very modest way, to the finalization of the Wir sind das Volk expansion through my clumsy setup of tests here. My only regret is never having managed to complete the polished implementation of this work.

Finally, thank you, players, for your support - whether financial (without which the site would have closed much sooner), through your contributions, ideas, or simply your messages of encouragement. I have experienced an overwhelming amount of positivity, and that's truly amazing (when, in the beginning, all I wanted was to find people to play Antiquity with me!).

Hopefully, paths will cross again on another site or perhaps at a convention someday!

Wishing you all many more great games and joyful moments ahead,

Christophe

The site will close on January 8th, 2025

About

Antiquity

Antiquity is a strategy game published by Splotter Spellen, designed by Jeroen Doumen and Joris Wiersinga. This game takes place during the Middle-Age in Italy and puts you at the head of a city. Your goal is to develop, to find your matching Saint, to satisfy his or her need. If you are the first to fulfill one Saint's wishes, then you win. For once, there is no victory point race !

You can find more information on the publisher page, or on boardgamegeek.com (the rules for instance).

Wir sind das Volk !

Wir sind das Volk has been published by Histogame and designed by Peer Sylvester and Richard Sivel for the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall . One player plays the role of the GDR trying to achieve a socialist domination whereas the other player is the FRG.

As Wir sind das Volk ! is not well suited for asynchronous play, it can be played real time.

You can find more information on the publisher page, or on boardgamegeek.com.

Food Chain Magnate

Food Chain Magnate has been released in 2015 by Splotter Spellen and designed by Jeroen Doumen and Joris Wiersinga. As a player, you have to develop your fast-food chain by selling food and drinks, and by generating demand in the neighbourhood. But you are not alone of course, and the other players will do their best to keep the customers for themselves. Warning, because this game can be even more unforgiving than Antiquity.

You can find more information on the publisher page, or on boardgamegeek.com.

The Great Zimbabwe

The third Splotter Spellen title implemented on this website, and also designed by Jeroen Doumen and Joris Wiersinga.
Raise and upgrade monuments in order to achieve victory. However, your goal is not really defined at setup, and the number of victory points to reach will depend on the assistance you use. Will you hire plenty of cratsmen, requiring to score of lot of victory points ? Of will you aim at a lower goal, and make good use of your opponents' craftsmen ?

You can find more information on the publisher page, or on boardgamegeek.com.

This website has no link with Splotter or Histogame. However it has been published with the permission of the authors and original game's publishers.
