Games

I have a few inactive games. Will they stay here forever?
No. Inactive games are removed after one month of inactivity.

Antiquity

Your implementation doesn't really do the original game justice. Why?
You are right, this implementation is quite ugly, and sometimes broken. It was my first game implementation, and a lot of things need to be improved. I plan to do this, see What will you do next on boardgamecore?.
I resigned but the game stalled, what can I do?
This feature doesn't work very well. Contact me and I'll see what can be done.
I built the bank but cannot trade with another player. Or if I can, I don't know how.
This feature was not working and was removed. It will come back; see What will you do next on boardgamecore?

Food Chain Magnate

Hey, there's a bug on plane #4! It should be 2 spaces wide.
Plane #4 is actually 1 space wide, and not 2. That confuses many players (and me too during early games). Have a look here on boardgamegeek.
The dinnertime is wrong! House #X should have come to my restaurant (or something similar).
Please check it again carefully, with the rulebook, especially if you are new to the game. The rules have been heavily tested, and most of the bugs related to the rules are just misunderstood rules or interface. I'm not saying there CANNOT be any bug here. In case of doubt, feel free to contact me. As long as you are not rude, I will always check whether there is something wrong or not, and let you know.
For bugs not related to the rules (wrong active player, display issue, ...), you might be right, do not hesitate to contact me.
I can set a pace at game creation. What is it about exactly?
This is mainly informative, to let the other players know how you want to play exactly. However, by choosing "Live" or "Blitz", you allow the game to auto refresh, and thus to play real-time. You can still play asynchronously with the real time feature, but be considerate of the other players, who joined this game knowing it was real-time. However, if all the players agree beforehand, you can start a game live in order to play one hour (for example) together, then leave the game, and come back all together the day (or week) after. "Live" (and "Blitz") doesn't mean the game will be deleted if all the players leave before the end.

Wir sind das Volk!

Is this game real-time?
Yes, all the Wir sind das Volk! games are real time. You can play asynchronously of course, but because it is only a 2-players game, and it requires a lot of goings and comings, having real-time activated by default made sense.

About boardgamecore

What is this website about?
Boardgamecore was originally designed to play Splotter's Antiquity online and asynchronously. It is a complementary way to explore the game, and you can take all the time you need to think. The other games were added a few years later, but always with the desire to go deeper in games exploration by playing them online (meaning a lot) and asynchronously (meaning you can take one hour to plan a move if you want). Real-time was added later, because it was frequently asked for, and it was much easier to do in 2015 rather than in 2010.
A brief timeline :
  • March 2012: Start. Antiquity available
  • November 2015: Wir sind das Volk! available
  • February 2016: Food chain magnate available
You didn't answer my email or bug report!
I am sorry, I should have. For very basic requests, I don't always answer if the result is obvious ("Can you remove this game ?"), or I put a message in your game. If you have the feeling I forgot about your message, please send me an email. Even if this was for a minor thing, or just to discuss.
Are you taking donations?
This website requires to be hosted, and thus costs money. If you want to help me cover the hosting fees, please go to the donation page
Who are you and why are you doing this?
Boardgamecore is currently developed and run by one person (Christophe), with occasional minor modifications and a lot of suggestions and ideas from different users. The original idea was to have a place where Splotter's Antiquity could be played online, mainly because such a game requires time and many plays before being fully appreciated (amongst dozens of other games).
For me, online board games implementations require three criteria : depth, replayability, and being adaptable online (yes, it seems obvious, but some good games would lose a lot in an online implementation)
I am a developer and I want to help. What can I do?
Antiquity apart, the games code is mainly Javascript here. If you want to discuss the games implementation or the website, either for something that could be improved here, or something new you want to do, or just to discuss, send me an email.
Can you add this feature to this game?
You can always ask. If it is something short and easy to do, and I find it interesting, I will probably do it. If it is longer, but still interesting, I will note it and plan it (as much as I can). I cannot swear I will do it, but I will try. If it is too complicated or I don't find it interesting, I will tell you.
Can you share your code with me?
No. You should tell me what you have in mind first, but I will very likely stick to my "no".
Do the original publishers know that their games are running here?
Yes of course, and they gave their approval.
What will you do next on boardgamecore?
I won't mention all the minor developments, just the big ones (in no particular order) :
  • Antiquity: the interface needs to be reworked from scratch (with the original graphic material), the trade between players doesn't work, and resigning is often broken.
  • The website could be more responsive so it would be easier to browse with a smartphone.
  • While I don't have a clear roadmap about a possible website translation, it could be combined with the previous point (or at least planned).
  • Some basic functionality is really needed: email notification, games consultation, games and site statistics, utf8 (it is currently impossible to write a comment in cyrillic or chinese, for example, and it's a shame!)

I didn't mention any possible new games on purpose.
